Upon watching a news segment on our local channel 4 with the station owner interviewing a publisher from Las Vegas talk about the impending (try already here!) water shortage in Clark County, he mentioned that Southern Nevada was the economic engine of the state. Loosely intepreted, without Las Vegas, Nevada would be nothing. (my wife quipped that there are many ghost towns throught the country...it may be the course of nature that Las Vegas and Phoenic may one day be amonst them!) Said a different way, the leaders of our state continue to 'bet' our future on gambling.
What I have been saying for the past 5 years is that we as a state, especially Northern Nevada, need to expand our economic base to attract the companies that will attract the level of employee that will move the state into an economically viable future. That future is here. The basis of the industry is here, in spades (gambling pun intended).
Now, more than ever, we need to retool our state (and nation) to again be at the forefront of the next industrial revolution, renewable energy. We have sun. We have wind. We have geothermal. We have the headquartered in our state, leaders in these industries. What we are missing is the foresight and leadership to attract the support companies that will attract the employees to move Nevada in it's rightful place as a leader in renewable energy technologies.
I, for one, am not waiting. I will continue to promote and support grassroots efforts, including RE-NO, to engage both the pubilc and private sector on a sure bet, renewable energy!

Welcome!
This is the first posting to RE-NO, Renewable Energy - Not Oil. The purpose of this blog is to continue along the curve to educate, as alternative energy evolves into mainstream energy. I will provide insight, connections and interaction on all things technology as it relates to renewable energy.
Why are we not there yet? The wind and sun are free sources (hmmm... that may be...now don't be jaded!!).
I look forward to your comments and interaction.
Cheers!
